Appellate Court Upholds Defense Verdict

In August of 2016 firm members Win Stuardi and Russell Buffkin, representing a local hospital, successfully obtained a defense verdict in a wrongful death action filed against the hospital in Baldwin County Circuit Court.  In February of 2018, the Alabama Supreme Court affirmed the verdict.  Firm member Bill Watts handled the appeal on behalf of Thomas Hospital.

Casey Pipes to Speak at MAAR Luncheon

Case Pipes will be the guest speaker at the May 24th meeting of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors.  He will be giving an updated review of the Map for Mobile, the City of Mobile’s comprehensive plan for long-term preservation, revitalization and growth.

The luncheon is open to MAAR members and will be at the Country Club of Mobile on May 24, 2018, from 11:30-1:00.

Casey Pipes to Speak at NBI seminar in September

Casey Pipes will be an instructor at the National Business Institute’s “Practical Guide to Zoning and Land Use Law” seminar on September 13, 2016 in Mobile.  His topic will be Challenging or Appealing an Administrative Zoning Decision.

 

Chris Conte Elected Chair of State Bankruptcy Section

Chris Conte has been elected Chair of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Alabama Bar for 2015-2016.  Mr. Conte has served as a Board Member of the Section for the past 5 years and was elected Chair at the annual meeting.

Casey Pipes named Secretary/Treasurer of P&CMA

Casey Pipes was just named the Secretary/Treasurer of the Associate Board of the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers of Alabama (P&CMA). Casey has been an Associate Board member for the past three years, and he is now in line to become the President of the Associate Board in the next two years.

Casey Pipes is Featured Speaker at National Eminent Domain Seminar

Casey Pipes will be one of the featured speakers at the American Law Institute CLE (ALI CLE) annual course, Eminent Domain and Land Valuation Litigation, being held Thursday-Saturday, January 28-30, in Austin, Texas. His presentation will be made with Robert Bainbridge, MAI on the topic of Highest and Best Use in the particular context of takings of Convenience Stores.

Chris Conte To Speak At Bankruptcy Seminar on Changes to the Bankruptcy Rules

Chris Conte will be speaking on December 11, 2015, on the recent changes to the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. The seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute and will take place on December 11, 2015 at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Mobile. Mr. Conte will discuss the various changes to the Bankruptcy Rules that became effective on December 1, 2015, including changes to the proofs-of-claim filed by mortgage holders and revisions to the rules regarding objections to proofs-of-claim.
